Atlantic Division Preview: Philadelphia Flyers

on 03/23/2010 05:52 AM

The Philadelphia outscored their opponents by 18 goals this year and they are probably as impressive a 6th best team in the league can be this. The Pittsburgh Penguins, the best hockey betting odds and 2nd best team in the Eastern Conference, have only outscored their opponents by 20 goals so far on the season just to put that number into perspective.

They have been improving their season record to 36-28-4(wins-losses-overtime losses) on the season and have been solid especially as of late putting up a 6-3-1 record in the last 10 games.

They could potentially move up or move out of the playoffs and they will need a solid finish to the season in order to ensure a position in the playoffs and there is still plenty of hockey to be played this season. On the season so far, the Flyers are sitting right about where they were expected to be. They were expecting to make the playoffs this year but nobody expected them to pass up the New Jersey Devils or the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Atlantic Division.

Online hockey betting favorite Michael Leighton, acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes recently is leading them and for Leighton the change has been night and day. Carolina he was giving up on average more than 4 goals a game in the first part of the season. However in his last 25 starts with the Flyers he has been excellent. With a mere 2.42 goal allowed per game in his time in the net, he has posted a 16-5-2 record.

As the season ends, the Flyers will really need to services. The Flyers have the potential to take down any team in the NHL, if he can continue on with the success he has had over the last 25 games.
