The Maze, Into Arcadia, and Bethany
04/10/2010 10:00 AM

The formation of Into Arcadia is an unlikely one. The story begins with singer Otto Ohlsson leaving his native England with only a guitar and a suitcase to America's west coast in search of new musical horizons. From San Francisco to Los Angeles to New York, he eventually met guitarist Kenny Buesing in the blue collar, midwestern city of Milwaukee. There, with bassist Wes Falk, they soon recorded and released their debut E.P. "Maps For Children".
Channeling diverse musical backgrounds into a cohesive force, Into Arcadia feels as fragile as it is intense. Though something of an anomaly in Milwaukee's gritty rock scene, Into Arcadia has been embraced by their hometown and make a fine addition to its burgeoning musical landscape.
Heavily informed by personal experiences in each members lives, Maps For Children delves into tales of loss and redemption. The album is contemplative, and its live performance by Into Arcadia is is a high energy affair where nothing is held back.
The Maze is the collective name for the many faces of Rob Hansen, Jaben Funk, Trevor Irish, Michael Tietjan, and Matt Ihnan. Anchored by Hansen's poetic lyrics of love and loss, The Maze doesn't follow genre boundaries. Utilizing a variety of instruments from saws to electric guitars to ukeleles to random pieces of percussion, The Maze thrives on exploring the uncharted waters of experimental folk rock.
Formerly part of a duo with her sister called Hopscotch Wonder, Bethany Lindemann is now branching out and starting a solo carreer.
